2009 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R
Precise control and abundant midrange torque provide maximum excitement
To truly push the envelope, a rider needs a calm yet responsive sportbike with precision control feel and confidence-inspiring manners. That machine is perfectly embodied by the new 2009 Ninja® ZX™-6R. Thanks to an extensive overhaul by the Kawasaki engineers; weight shaving, improving mass centralization, refining engine and chassis behavior, adding a revolutionary front fork design; the new leaner, more precise Ninja ZX-6R delivers the elusive calm and confident handling that top racers need.
Fine-tuning the chassis and tightening its mass centralization resulted in lighter handling to make it even easier to tip this ZX-6R into a corner. To optimize front-rear rigidity balance, the engineers revised frame stiffness around the swingarm pivot and the rear engine mounts. The engine was rotated around the output shaft to offer a steeper cylinder bank angle and raise its CG by 16mm. A new exhaust layout with a short side muffler lowers the weight previously located under the seat and an exhaust pre-chamber further contributes to the new ZX-6R’s mass centralization.
The new Ninja ZX-6R’s leaner physique is fundamental to its lighter handling. Both the engine and chassis were evaluated to reduce weight. The intake resonator box and supports for the instrument panel and mirrors are now unitized with the enlarged –to optimize intake volume – Ram Air duct, contributing to weight savings and improving rigidity. New camshafts are now made of lighter SCM, and lightweight magnesium replaces aluminum for the engine covers. Revised internal gears – transmission, oil pump and starter – are lighter without compromising strength. Adjusting several mounting plates and the coolant reservoir locations helped shave additional weight.
Handling wasn’t the only area of improvement on the new Ninja ZX-6R; its lighter engine received a host of changes focused on delivering precise throttle control and increased performance, particularly in the mid-range. A smoother power delivery was achieved through better combustion efficiency. The changes include; adding cylindrical guides to the top of the airbox to better guide the fuel charge into the intake funnels, increasing the distance between the main and sub-throttles by 10mm to reduce inlet turbulence, revised cylinder porting to improve cylinder filling and increasing secondary coil current in the ignition coils.
In addition to healthier bottom-end torque and smoother throttle response, the engine’s mid-range performance was increased via a similar number of refinements, including; new double-bore velocity stacks with inlets at two different heights, pistons with new profiles and improved crown finishing, and reduced mechanical loss by decreasing piston ring tension and revising the cam chain guides to better stabilize the motion of the chain. A new exhaust collector layout rounds out the major changes. The stronger mid-range torque provides greater drive out of corners and is harmonized with the engine’s silky smooth high-rpm performance. This linear throttle torque delivery results in improved controllability and offers the rider more precise throttle control at all rpm. This predictability pays dividends when making mid-corner power adjustments. When combined with the reduced need to downshift provided by its healthy mid-range performance, the predictable throttle response makes it easier for riders to maintain their rhythm when stringing corners together.
In keeping with its racing heritage, the ZX-6R employs a cassette-type transmission that simplifies gearing changes at the track, reducing set-up time and allowing more time for riding. A slipper clutch allows quick downshifts without upsetting the rest of the chassis when reducing speed on corner entry.
Corner-entry controllability receives a major performance boost, thanks to the first production-use of Showa’s revolutionary new BPF (Big Piston Front fork). The BPF utilizes a large-diameter internal piston, which permits a reduction in damping pressure, for smoother action and better front end feedback – especially under braking and initial corner turn-in. Additionally, the BPF eliminates many of the internal components used in a cartridge-type fork, simplifying construction and resulting in a lighter overall fork weight.
Having already designed a lighter and more rigid swingarm for the Ninja ZX-10R sportbike, the Kawasaki engineers utilized many of the same design components for the new ZX-6R’s swingarm. Shared swingarm parts include both left and right inner plates, the left outer plate, rear stand bosses, brake caliper stopper, chain guard and swingarm pivot shaft. The response from Kawasaki’s acclaimed triple petal disc brake package with radial calipers was improved as well. The 220mm rear petal disc is now 10mm larger and features a revised brake lever that’s now coaxially mounted with the footpeg for increased mid-stroke braking efficiency and improved feeling. Its master cylinder reservoir was relocated forward of the swingarm – freeing up space around the footpeg, reducing parts and contributing to weight savings. Trackside maintenance is easier too, thanks to the revised front brake hose routing with a three-way joint at the lower triple-clamp to simplify bleeding the brake lines.
All of these revisions give the Ninja ZX-6R unflappable composure under braking and help provide the precise control and feel that allows Supersport racers to enter corners harder. To better capitalize on this lighter machine and its precise control response, the rider interface was appropriately fine-tuned to enhance feedback from the bike to the rider.
The relationship of the seat-to-pegs-to-bar “rider triangle” was adjusted slightly, with the handlebars moved closer to the rider and turned in slightly for a more intuitive riding position. The fuel tank cover is more flared around its top edge, providing a larger contact patch and contributing to improved rider feedback – similar to the ZX-10R. A new narrower rear sub-frame and seat leading edge, plus a 10mm lower seat height provide a slimmer riding position and a shorter reach to the pavement.
A new fairing and a less-complex one-piece front fender – previously a three-piece unit – offer improved aerodynamics and airflow to the radiator, better wind protection and help minimize the effect of crosswinds. The new inner rear fender, mounted above the swingarm, reduces turbulence and helps keep the tail clean. Like its bigger ZX-10R sibling, the ZX-6R received a new instrument panel that provides information at-a-glance and a race-quality adjustable Öhlins steering damper with relief valve and twin-tube design.
Highly confidence inspiring, the engine and chassis control precision offered by the new Ninja ZX-6R enables riders to push harder and maximize the excitement that comes from actively controlling such a high-performance track-focused machine.

2009 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R
Racing crucible hardens this Ninja’s edge
Creating a superbike engine and chassis combination that is competent enough to delight professional racers, yet still possesses valuable streetbike qualities to satisfy mainstream riders is a delicate balancing act to say the least. However, Kawasaki sportbike engineers aren’t your average slide rule gang. They gathered an extensive amount of superbike racing knowledge and distilled it into the latest Ninja® ZX™-10R, to create a machine that dominates, regardless of the locale.
Motivating this impressive package is a fearsome 998cc, four-cylinder engine that offers a strong mid-range punch followed by an eye-watering high-rpm crescendo. Part of the motor’s success is its efficient respiratory system – the bank of four 43mm Keihin throttle bodies with oval sub-throttles. Controlled by Kawasaki’s digital fuel injection (DFI®) system and featuring two injectors per cylinder, the throttle bodies utilize the airbox’s efficient design to maximize flow for improved cylinder filling and maximum power output. On par with the impressive intake side, the equally efficient exhaust system lets the engine exhale with ease, while generating less noise and minimizing emissions.
An excellent power delivery demands a top-notch transmission and the ZX-10R’s is no exception. With gearing optimized to match the engine output, the transmission and engine are essentially a race-ready team with performance similar to Kawasaki’s factory Superbikes. More racing heritage is found in its adjustable slipper clutch, which allows riders to dole out quick downshifts without upsetting the fine-tuned chassis.
The ZX-10R also has the Kawasaki Ignition Management System (KIMS) to enhance the precision with which the engine reacts to throttle changes. The KIMS works to prevent engine and catalyzer damage from sudden spikes in engine speed, providing a smooth and controlled throttle response to the rider. The system works by monitoring the standard DFI system’s input data (engine speed, throttle position, vehicle speed, gear position and feedback from intake air temperature, intake air pressure, engine temperature and O2 sensors), and checking every 0.02 seconds for any sudden changes in RPM. It doesn’t interfere with normal operation and still allows the engine to rev freely under typical riding conditions.
A superb engine deserves an equally superb chassis, and this is where the ZX-10R really shines. Applying lessons learned in the unforgiving racing environment to its ?ber-sport bike, Kawasaki created an exceptionally communicative machine. It provides two-way rider/machine feedback with the precision professional racers demand and everyday riders crave.
The track oriented and fully-adjustable 43mm inverted fork and advanced rear suspension design supplement the ZX-10R’s chassis feedback capabilities. The fork tubes have Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating for less stiction and enhanced feedback, while locating the springs at the bottom of the fork legs helps reduce oil frothing for more consistent damping performance. The fully-adjustable rear shock includes low and high-speed compression damping for better fine-tuning capabilities and connects to the aluminum swingarm via the latest Uni-Trak® linkage design.
Light, stiff and precise squeeze-cast wheels keep unsprung weight down and improve suspension action. Their reduced rotational inertia further enhances the 10R’s quick steering and acceleration.
The ZX-10R is capable of slowing down every bit as fast as it can sprint ahead. Braking duties are handled by radial mounted Tokico brake calipers squeezing 310mm petal discs, while the rear 220mm petal disc is stopped by a single-piston caliper.
Shrink wrapping all of this Kawasaki wizardry is a sleek aerodynamic shape that flows from an aggressive front cowling to a sharp, minimalist tail cowl. The rear frame, tank and seat shape offer glove-like ergonomics and near form-fitted rider/bike contact spots. The result of these efforts is a clean, lithe and wiry package highlighted by superb fit and finish exuding the presence befitting its Ninja name.
Lessons learned on the race track translate to the road in the new Ninja ZX-10R. Responsive enough for the most demanding racer, yet with performance and handling that experienced road riders can make the most of too. An intelligent ignition management system controls power delivery. The perfect balance.

2009 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14
Kawasaki’s Flagship Superbike Reigns Supreme
In the ever changing world of global superbike supremacy, the mantra “evolve or get left behind” still holds true. The 2009 Kawasaki Ninja® ZX™-14 has not rested on its laurels. The winning traits – massive torque, effortless power, agile handling and comfortable ergonomics – of the 1352cc Ninja king have landed it a sizeable collection of open class sportbike victories. Despite ever-tightening noise and emissions regulations; the ZX-14 has continued to set the pace of sportbike excellence ever since its domineering debut in March of 2006.
No doubt about it, the ZX-14 is a testament to effective evolution. Its engine and exhaust system permit it to comply with strict Euro-III emissions and tightening noise regulations. However, the ZX-14’s low-end torque, mid-range surge and its legendary Ninja peak power place it at the top of the sportbike food chain.
Secondary air ports in the cylinder head and its cover flow clean air into the exhaust system and boost the efficiency of the three honeycomb catalyzers employed in the exhaust system. These devices, combined with a wide dispersal of atomized fuel from the fine-atomizing fuel injectors and optimized flow characteristics through the intakes, allow the ZX-14’s 1352cc engine to offer strong performance, yet still meet the toughest motorcycle emissions regulations.
The ZX-14 meets noise standards by producing a minimum of internal mechanical noise, in lieu of using a more-restrictive exhaust system. A special piston profile and a urethane insulation sheet on the inside of the magnesium chain cover help quiet the engine and permit a freer flowing exhaust for greater power.
The ZX-14’s chassis design is every bit the equal of its power plant. Using an advanced version of Kawasaki’s unique aluminum monocoque design, its frame is lightweight and very strong. Die cast aluminum sections on the main frame make for lighter parts, keeping the weight down even more on the slim and compact frame.
The narrow engine, monocoque frame, and fuel tank provide a slim rider interface and a relaxed sport riding position. It is compact without being cramped, with its easy-to-reach bar position, low-set footpegs for ample legroom and a low seat height and narrow seat front to easily plant both feet on the ground when stopped. Comfort levels are high enough to cause riders to think they’re on a dedicated sport tourer – until the ZX-14’s throttle is twisted. When that happens, all confusion disappears, like so many competitors in the rear view mirrors.
Uninterrupted fairing lines give the ZX-14 a smooth, flowing appearance from front to rear, due in part to the monocoque frame that goes over the engine and doesn’t protrude through the cowling. Quadruple projector beam headlights adorn the ZX-14’s front fairing, immediately beneath its menacing ram air intake duct. The turn signals are cleanly integrated into the fairing and rear cowl, with a unique “V” design LED tail lamp capping off a sleek, aerodynamic package that reinforces Kawasaki’s aircraft heritage.
The Ninja ZX-14’s blend of power, handling and style perfectly illustrates the potent technological know how of Kawasaki’s highly-trained engineers.

2009 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 Monster Energy
Ultimate Ninja® Superbike Adds Ominous Looks to Its Repertoire
For riders looking to shock and awe their rivals, the sinister looking special edition Kawasaki Ninja® ZX™-14 Monster Energy® is the sportbike of choice. Dressed in all black, it promises a cranked-up heart rate for anyone with a pulse, thanks to the black bodywork, frame and pinstriped wheels, highlighted by an aggressive Monster Energy graphics package.
The Monster Energy ZX-14 is a testament to effective engineering.
These devices combined with a wide dispersal of atomized fuel from the fine-atomizing fuel injectors and optimized flow characteristics through the intakes, allow the ZX-14’s 1352cc engine to offer strong performance, yet still meet the toughest motorcycle emissions regulations.
The ZX-14 meets noise standards, by producing a minimum of internal mechanical noise, in lieu of using a more-restrictive exhaust system.
Underneath its chilling exterior are the winning traits riders have come to expect from a ZX-14 – massive torque, effortless power, agile handling and comfortable ergonomics – reflected in the 1352cc Ninja’s sizeable collection of open class sportbike victories.
The all black Monster Energy package adds to the ZX-14’s already stunning, smooth, flowing appearance from front to rear. Quadruple projector beam headlights adorn the ZX-14’s front. The turn signals are cleanly integrated into the fairing and rear cowl with a unique “V” design LED tail lamp capping off the sleek aerodynamics that reinforces Kawasaki’s aircraft heritage. Authentic Kawasaki Accessories are available through Kawasaki dealers.

848

LIGHTWEIGHT MOVES - HEAVYWEIGHT PUNCHThe 848 is Ducati's most impressive middleweight Superbike ever. Its exceptional lightweight and legendary Ducati chassis set-up combined with the smooth and thrilling torque delivery of the L-Twin Desmo provide the ideal way to enter the world of Ducati Superbikes.
With a dry weight of just 168kg (369lb) the agile 848 is an amazing 20kg (44lb) lighter and 30% more powerful than its predecessor, enabling the middleweight to deliver impressive performances whether riding through mid-town traffic or racing through track-day competition. These incredible achievements are a fitting reward to Ducati's ingenuity and a clear result of the continual attention to detail and development of their twin-cylinder technology.
Iconic features from its bigger brothers, such as the twin under-seat silencers, single-sided swingarm, Trellis frame and beautiful race bodywork, are all part of the 848's DNA. Its family resemblance assures that it is equipped with all the performance advancements of the Superbike family, while adding its own particular refinements to the middleweight sport bike class.
From the first twist of the throttle, the powerful rush of the Testastretta Evoluzione engine confirms that the rules have changed. The 848 is a new class of Superbike.

A DUCATI LEGENDTroy Bayliss is a Ducati legend. In celebration of his victory in the 2008 World Superbike Championship aboard the 1098 R, and the end of a career that proudly claims three World Championships aboard three generations of Ducati Superbike, the factory have built a 1098 R Bayliss Limited Edition.
Enjoying exactly the same high specification as the standard 'R' model, the 1098 R Bayliss Limited Edition has a special colour scheme designed by Aldo Drudi and approved by Troy Bayliss himself. The livery, which was used during Troy's final race at Portimao in Portugal, incorporates the key colours of his success. Sporting the famous number '21' on the pearl white nose and side-fairing number plates, the red and white paint scheme uses the dark blue background of the Australian national flag to blend beautifully along the side of the bodywork and into the unpainted carbon fibre stripe along the seat unit. This attention to fine detail is also evident in features like the carbon lower-fairing finished in red, except for aerodynamic recess for the side-stand, which remains natural carbon fibre. A subtle '1098 R Bayliss Limited Edition' graphic on the tail fairing leaves no doubt as to what this magnificent bike is.
The striking design contrasts perfectly against the 5-spoke wheels finished in matte black and additional special features like the carbon fibre heat shield on the exhaust.
The 1098 R Bayliss Limited Edition will be limited to only 500 units and comes with a numbered plaque on the top fork clamp, indicating exactly where in the limited edition the motorcycle was built. The number also corresponds to a numbered commemorative desk-top plaque, beautifully encased for safe keeping and bearing the engraved signatures of Ducati Motor Holding CEO Gabriele Del Torchio and Ducati Corse triple World Superbike Champion, Troy Bayliss.
In addition, the model will be supplied with a full racing exhaust system including 102dB carbon fibre mufflers by Termignoni (strictly for track use only), a dedicated ECU, branded bike cover and rear paddock stand.
What better way to mark the incredible career of Troy Bayliss than by Ducati building the 1098 R Bayliss Limited Edition.

new 1198

'S' PERFORMANCEProducing 170hp (125kW) and with a dry weight of just 169kg (372.6lb), the new 1198 S now incorporates more World Superbike technology than ever before by taking the 1198 motor and adding top-of-the-range suspension, lightweight chassis components and a true racing-style traction control system designed for road use.
The high performance, fully adjustable 43mm Öhlins forks, which sport low friction titanium nitride-treated fork sliders, respond effortlessly to every imperfection in the tarmac. Beyond their advanced engineering solutions, one of the most important characteristics of Öhlins forks is their ability to communicate the condition and quality of the tyre-to-road contact patch, a feature that puts every rider in superior control. The suspension set-up at the rear is complemented with a fully adjustable Öhlins rear shock equipped with a ride enhancing top-out spring and mounted to a single-sided swingarm for outstanding drive and traction. The front-to-rear Öhlins package is completed with a control-enhancing adjustable steering damper.
The 'S' sets the standard for lightweight performance. On any sport or race bike, the most effective area to reduce weight is its 'unsprung weight'. These are components like tyres, brakes and wheels. Lighter wheels have a lower 'moment of inertia' that is beneficial with every direction change and application of the brakes. The 1198 S addresses this important area by mounting new 7-spoke GP replica Marchesini forged and machined wheels. Both front and rear are super lightweight and their benefit is immediately apparent. The weight saving is further enhanced with the application of a carbon fibre front fender.
The 1198 S is supplied with the Ducati Data Analyzer (DDA) and Ducati Traction Control (DTC) systems as standard equipment. The DDA package enables the retrieval and analysis of data collected from your previous track session or road trip. DTC monitors front and rear wheel speeds to detect rear wheel-spin under acceleration and electronically reduces engine power to restore traction.

Here's my 2007 BMW F 800 ST which I got used in January. I've already put over 2000 miles on it just commuting, and am about to kick over 5000 on the odometer. That picture was taken on the one sunny day in February where we took all the bikes out to wash them. Poor thing is much scuzzier now due to the generally nasty winter weather with no clear days to clean it up. We're supposed to get some summer weather this weekend so I might wash it and take more photos then.

Got dirt in your blood? Dreaming of whoops, ruts, sand washes and gnarly singletrack? Want an off-road bike that can slalom around trees roots, and rocks without getting hung up? Then the rippin’ new BMW G650Xchallenge motorcycles is your ride.
Boasting a 53 bhp single cylinder engine with plenty of pulling power, this is an enduro that’s lightweight in terms of heft, but certainly not in its ability. With the same air damping rear suspension as the HP2 Enduro you’ll thrash over just about anything, even the tightest trails on that dual sport ride out in the woods. Front mudguards, an asymmetric headlight, a cast aluminum rear swing arm, and a lightweight wave design front brake disc complete the package. The new BMW G650Xchallenge motorcycle - a single cylinder enduro that can’t wait to tear it up.

I love the Ducati, It has the best fit/finish of any motorcycle I have ever owned. I am constantly amazed by the way it looks, works and rides. Though unless I get out to the North Cascades Highway, or Blewett Pass, the motor is really unable to shine. For around town, I really thought the older yzf was a blast. Comfortable enough for a 400 mile day, and you feel like you can rap though a few gears without the fear of being arrested for public endangerment (The duc hits ~73 in first gear). Now, Take the Duc to SIR, or out in the mountain passes, and whoo-boy, it shines, and comes into its own.
For this reason, I believe that I should save up and get a F800GS for around town/adv-touring/commuter, and keep the Duc for my sunny day jaunts, and trips to the coast. If they would hurry up and stock them, i think I would.

2004 Suzuki Bandit 1200S. The pic is pretty old, I plan on posting some new ones just as soon as I get my Givi E21's bought for it. The E21's will join my Givi V46 topbox that I got last winter. Hopefully I'll have the cash for the sidecases this week. Oh and if anyone is interested the soft luggage pictured is for sale, email/PM for details

2009 Kawasaki Concours 14
2009 Kawasaki Concours 14
2009 KAWASAKI CONCOURS™ 14 AND CONCOURS 14 ABS
Beauty and brawn balanced for exhilarating travel and comfortable style
With its combination of healthy power, comfortable cockpit and adept handling, the Kawasaki Concours™ 14 and Concours 14 ABS sliced through the sport-touring world like a Ninja’s blade through warm butter. In its first year on the scene, the powerful, supersport tourer racked up a sizeable collection of shootout wins, accolades and several Motorcycle of the Year awards.
Brute strength and finesse are adjectives you don’t often see used together, but the Concours 14 motorcycle doesn’t bow to convention. Its prime motivator - all 1352cc of smooth fury –offers the brute strength. With items like ram air induction, digital ignition, digital fuel injection and sub-throttle valve equipped throttle bodies, this four-cylinder engine’s portfolio reads like a top-end racer. However, this is no high-strung track tool. The Concours 14’s engine delivers strong torque off the line, followed by an impressive mid-range surge that transitions into a top-end rush that any sportbike would be proud to call its own. It achieves this miraculous powerband via variable valve timing (VVT). VVT provides smooth power delivery free of harsh power spikes, by altering the camshaft profile to boost low-end and mid-range torque without sacrificing top-end power.
While the high-tech engine supplies the power, the Concours 14’s aluminum monocoque chassis provides a responsive platform to convert that thrust into comfortable, rapid progress. Combined with a sophisticated inverted fork and smooth, reliable shaft drive system, this agile chassis transfers the potent engine’s torque to the pavement with quiet efficiency. The clean, low maintenance Tetra-Lever shaft drive utilizes a special four-link design to offset the lifting and squatting tendencies of shaft drive when the throttle is opened and closed, in-effect isolating torque from suspension action in a manner that’s remarkably-similar to chain drive. The overall design of the Concours 14’s powertrain has earned critical acclaim for its ability to reliably deliver silky, lash-free thrust.
Massive acceleration capability demands maximum stopping power and the brakes on the Concours 14 are more than up to the task. With radial-mount front calipers operated by a radial-pump master cylinder and petal-type discs on both ends, the brake system gives riders the powerful, reliable braking performance and confidence inspiring control they want. The Concours 14 ABS raises that stopping control level another notch with the reassuring control of an advanced anti-lock brake system (ABS).
The refined chassis, confident brakes and all-conquering power blend together and render the competition as an ever-shrinking dot in the rear view mirrors. An integrated high-speed touring machine with an unquestionable supersport core, the Concours 14 has all the features required for a safe and exciting long-distance ride. Functional touches like Kawasaki’s Intelligent Proximity Activation Start System (KI-PASS), an electrically adjustable windscreen, locking and detachable side cases and an accessory power outlet make this a grand touring machine line no other.
The electrically adjustable windscreen reflects the Concours 14’s genetic roots. It utilizes a supersport-style design philosophy of aerodynamically curving the wind around the rider - and passenger - to help avoid the buffeting that comes from wind curling around less-advanced windscreens. These genes show again in the slim, integrated design of its hard luggage, which are mounted closer to the machine’s centerline for excellent mass centralization.
The Concours 14’s touring prowess doesn’t stop with its impressive physique. It’s loaded with the high-tech electronic wizardry expected of a modern long-distance machine such as a Controller Area Network (CAN) interface between the gauges. The CAN uses fewer wires than a traditional wiring harness, so a greater volume of information can be exchanged and then displayed on the multi-function LCD digital dash. Included in the easy-to-read instrumentation are a speedometer, tachometer and odometer, two trip meters, fuel gauge, estimated fuel mileage, gear position indicator and a clock. Also available to the rider is information from sensors monitoring tire pressure in the front and rear wheels - more peace of mind so the rider can focus on the road.
Summed up, the Concours 14 platform is ready for spirited journeys –short or long –while providing comfort and confidence for maximum rider enjoyment.

Features
1,352cc Four-Cylinder, DOHC Engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT)- Tuned to provide smooth power across a wide rev range - Variable valve timing improves the engine’s flexibility and efficiency by altering the camshaft profiles to boost low-end and mid-range torque without sacrificing top-end power- Compact and narrow engine design- Chrome composite plated aluminum cylinder bores are lightweight, durable, and quickly carry heat away from the combustion chamber and piston for supreme durability under high loads
Gear-Driven Dual Engine Balancers- Already in perfect primary balance, dual secondary balancers virtually eliminate unwanted vibrations for extremely smooth engine operation and enhanced rider comfort
Ram Air Induction- Ram air ducts provide a straighter path to the airbox for maximum intake efficiency - Supplies cooler, high-pressure air to the engine for maximum power output via the air filter
Digital Fuel Injection- Digital computer feeds the engine exactly the amount of fuel it needs for cleaner emissions and maximum fuel economy- 32-bit electronic control unit works with dual throttle valve system to further enhance throttle response and control- Throttle bodies are fitted with sub-throttle valves that are controlled by the ECU to provide smooth, precise response similar to constant velocity carburetors
Digital Ignition - Digital Timing Advance enhances low-and mid-range power- Four individual spark plug-mounted ignition coils fire each spark plug independently to achieve the optimum timing for that cylinder at that instant- Idle speed control system included in ECU for easier starting and warm-up
Radial Pump Clutch Master Cylinder- Hydraulic clutch features a radial-pump clutch master cylinder for smooth and precise clutch engagement
Monocoque Aluminum Frame- Hollow aluminum box sections arch over the engine from the steering head to the swing arm pivot, the frame is narrow, rigid and very light- Rigidly mounted engine acts as a stressed frame member to increase the frame’s torsional rigidity and saves approximately four pounds- Engine positioned forward in the frame, wheelbase and front/rear weight balance were carefully designed to achieve high-speed stability and responsive handling - Massive steering head casting contributes to frame rigidity
Radial-mount Petal-type Front Disc Brakes- Radial design utilizes integrated mounting points at both the top and bottom of the caliper, with the mounting bolts inserted through the rear of the caliper instead of the side/front. This makes the caliper more rigid, which improves brake feel over a wider range of operation- Separate brake pads are used for each piston to provide increased cooling efficiency and more consistent brake feel under extreme conditions - Petal design front and rear brake rotors provide enhanced cooling and better warp resistance- Radial-pump front brake master cylinder improves brake performance and lever feel
Tetra-Lever Shaft Drive- Unique four-link design offsets lifting and squatting tendencies of shaft drive when the throttle is opened and closed, significantly reduces driveline lash during sport riding and provides smooth acceleration when exploiting the engine’s incredible power output- Virtually maintenance free, the Tetra Lever system dramatically reduces routine maintenance requirements
Antilock Brake System (Concours™ 14 ABS)- ABS brakes boost safety and rider confidence in lowtraction conditions and may enhance evasive maneuvering in an emergency
Bodywork Optimized for Sport Touring- Fairing design promotes smooth airflow around the rider and passenger with minimal buffeting - Integrated, locking hard luggage offers plenty of storage, without disrupting the Concours 14’s style or performance- Electrically adjustable vented windscreen - Large, comfortable seat offers long-distance comfort for both rider and passenger- Glove box mounted on the fuel tank cover
Full Instrumentation- Easy to read speedometer and tachometer - Multi-function LCD digital display includes an odometer, two trip meters, fuel gauge, gear position indicator and a clock- Controller Area Network (CAN) interface between the gauges uses fewer wires and allows a greater volume of information to be exchanged than traditional instrument panels- Kawasaki’s Intelligent Proximity Activation Start System (KI-PASS) - Tire pressure sensors
